![]() ![]() This means that many English TCG-only sets, such as Maze of Memories, are not available in the country, although Japan-only sets released after 2008 - such as the recently-released Rarity Collection Quarter Century Edition - have been released. Once Daewon had rushed through many of the earliest TCG sets and reached parity with the English-language game in 2007/2008, releasing new booster sets just a few months after Japan, Daewon chose to instead follow the Japanese release cycle in subsequent years. The card pool within the Korean region is unique, in part due to this unusual release pattern. Watch on YouTube A beginner gets to grips with Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel In the following 17 months, nine booster packs, six promotional packs and four starter decks blitzed onto shelves, on top of exclusive regional releases - such as a special Yugi + Kaiba starter deck release that included an instructional DVD teaching the rules of the game. Following the initial December 2003 launch of the first two starter decks with the Blue-Eyes booster pack, Metal Raiders hit Korean shelves in March 2004. Rather than directly emulating the set lists and packs of Japan, many of the early sets from Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon until Ancient Sanctuary were released in quick succession. As a result, the early years of Yu-Gi-Oh! in Korea saw a rapid-fire localisation of many of the early structure decks and booster packs on a near-monthly basis. The later launch of the series in the region meant that by the time the game was being localised into Korean, the series was already many years behind its counterparts in both Japan and English-speaking regions. ![]() Prior to the official localisation of Yu-Gi-Oh! into Korean, a small dedicated community had begun to import many of the cards from other regions, such as nearby Japan. In 20 they took control of the Yu-Gi-Oh! IP in the region, localising the anime and releasing the first Yugi and Kaiba structure decks in December 2003.ĭaewon's distribution of the Yu-Gi-Oh! In South Korea, this responsibility was handed to Daewon. In the West, this came in the form of a short-lived and tumultuous partnership with Upper Deck Entertainment that ran until 2008 when the company regained control of the licence and directly distributed the title in English markets. The early years of Yu-Gi-Oh! in Korea saw a rapid-fire localisation of many of the early structure decks and booster packs on a near-monthly basis.Ĭonfident with its domestic success, Konami sought partners for global expansion. In this time Bandai unsuccessfully attempted to adapt the card game into real life, before Konami turned it into a phenomenon with its own take in 1999. Early chapters of Kazuo Takahashi’s manga don’t even centre on anything similar to the ubiquitous trading card game, and the first anime in the series based on these chapters has remained mostly a relic and curio of a possible future that never came to be after the Duelist Kingdom arc and newer anime transformed the series. Yu-Gi-Oh! as a franchise evolved heavily from its origins as a brooding psychological thriller in the pages of comic magazine Shonen Jump to a card game fighting manga to the multi-billion dollar franchise we know today. So I went to Korea to understand this regional game for myself.Ī look out over Seoul. Yet, in spite of a passionate fanbase, and a healthy competitive scene both online and in the card stores that hide amidst the highrise buildings of Seoul and other cities across South Korea, it’s a region whose players and history remain broadly under-explored. The result of this is a unique community: a strong niche within a region dominated by imported card game giants like Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, alongside a mix of domestic TCGs and more niche franchises like Cardfight Vanguard. ![]() It’s the only region outside of China with official localisation support not handled in-house by publisher Konami, while the release schedule and pricing of its booster packs also differs to those found elsewhere. The circumstances surrounding Yu-Gi-Oh! in Korea are a fascinating one, in part because its history isn’t a mirror to the understood narrative found elsewhere in the world. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Directed by Lance Drake, it was released on 17 August 2020 in a one-night only worldwide IMAX release, with a download and streaming release on 21 August. In essence, it consists in meeting social needs which expand business opportunities, a virtuous cycle where innovation is the engine that increases social (and environmental) impact over time. Mark Kramer, Co-Founder and Managing Director of FSGĬareful, though: CSV does not mean sharing wealth that has already been created, nor balancing the interests of various stakeholders, as it is a market-competitive strategy that creates long-term value for society and the business at the same time. Profit is the most powerful means to solve social problems” “In contrast to politics, which claims that something is real, companies are dealing with reality and have to find solutions that work. This offers a far broader perspective because it recognises the close relationship between social wellbeing and economic success, and manages to bring them together, thereby replacing the trade-off that is typical of traditional economic thought. ![]() There are three ways – explains Kramer – for a company to build a relationship with society: Philanthropy (“giving back to society a part of the wealth”), Corporate Social Responsibility (“minimising damage and making business more responsible”) and the Creation of Shared Value. The most important thing is that they are ready to change their business model, rather than attempting to defend the status quo. So how can CSV solve a problem that is so dramatically urgent? Kramer believes that companies, which are seen as being mainly responsible for the present situation of environmental pollution, provide the only real resource for solving it. “The issue is urgent: we have to act right now with prepared and shared initiatives to reduce CO 2 emission levels or else the scenario in 2100 will be devastating,” explained O’Keeffe, after unrolling a graph that displayed how the temperature of the Earth remained relatively stable for thousands of years until a spike in the past century. This concept has not been confined to the lecture halls of Harvard, where Kramer teaches, but is leading the way for some of the world’s biggest companies – like Enel, whose sustainability strategy is inspired by the principles of CSV.Īt the #EnelFocusOn event, CSV was adopted as the method for attempting to tackle climate change, which Ryan O’Keeffe, Enel Director of Communications, defined in his opening remarks as “the greatest challenge of our time.” And how could it have been otherwise in this special week which saw the Big Apple host the General Assembly of the United Nations, the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit and the tenth edition of Climate Week. The article (co-written with economist Michael Porter) which baptised the new concept was published in the Harvard Business Review in 2011 and was immediately received as a revelation of something innovative in the relationship between business and society. Mark Kramer, Co-Founder and Managing Director of FSG (Foundation Strategy Group), is considered the father of CSV (Creating Shared Value), a paradigm that is changing the way of approaching business. The quip was originally made by the great late stand-up comedian George Carlin, but it was used by Mark Kramer, the keynote speaker at the event on 25 September, to frame the chosen theme: how creating shared value can tackle climate change. ![]() In a New York lashed with a sudden, torrential autumn rain, this spark of humorous intelligence helped warm the participants at the eleventh #EnelFocusOn. “People are worrying about saving the planet, but the planet is fine: it’s the people that are screwed!”. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is why your device shuts down suddenly without any warning and it reports the reason for shutdown the next time it is turned on (although sometimes devices are silent about it). Most likely your device shuts down to protect its hardware from overheating, which can definitely damage it if the temperature is not dropped or/and device is not de-energized immediately. Why did my device shut down during the stress test? If you are planning to knockout your system by torturing all hardware, consider to use a PC Stress Test. Given this, you can consider it as a CPU stability test, which will show how well your system is coping with heavy loads. As a rule, modern systems and processors perfectly handle this and you should not experience big performance issues. For this reason, the stability of the system or other applications may be affected during testing. Why did my system become unstable during testing?Īt maximum load, the stress test will try to use the full capacity of your CPU, which in the long term can lead to the fact that other processes will be performed more slowly and slowly, and some will even hang. Press the “Start CPU Stress Test” button.Enter the maximum number of “Threads”: 128.If you want to feel the smell of a heated device and hear the sound of the roaring fan, don’t hesitate to burn stress your CPU at heavy load as follows: Monitor the “Speed” and “FPS” indicator and make sure that their values do not drop significantly.Make sure everything runs smoothly and this “stressful situation” does not affect your usual tasks.Keeping this tab in the background (don’t close it), switch to other applications or tabs, and do what you do as usual.Start the CPU Stress Test at maximum load and wait 30-60 seconds. So, to run a CPU stability test you have to: The purpose of a processor stability test is to determine how smoothly the CPU works, even if it is under high load. Thus, FPS is a good indicator while running a CPU stability test. However, if the frame rate drops below 30 FPS, it means that something is wrong (for example, the system cannot keep up with the current workload). As a rule, in most cases, browsers render frames at a speed of 60 FPS (although sometimes a slightly lower speed may be acceptable). The number of frames per second (abbreviated as FPS) indicates how fast your browser is able to render new frames. As you might have guessed, the number of points directly depends on the speed and the test duration. The number of score points indicates how many hashes were computed during the test. Thus, more power and threads will provide higher speed and CPU load (for example, 50% power + 10 threads will result in a 500% load). Since the power and the number of threads almost proportionally affect the speed, a 100% power + 1 thread will give the same speed as 50% power + 2 threads, or 25% power + 4 threads. The power indicates how much CPU time can be used by one thread (for example, 100% power means full speed without time idle). Multi-core CPUs cope better with the multithreading, this is why in such cases modern processors work faster and get better results. Thus, more threads lead to a higher speed, but at the same time to a higher load. The number of threads determines the number of simultaneous operations for computing hashes. However, you need to remember that for maximum speed you need to use the full power of the CPU (that is, specify as many threads and power as possible). Obviously, a more powerful processor develops a higher speed. The speed measures how fast the processor is, and is measured in the number of hash operations per second. Given that not all processors and devices withstand high loads, it is strongly recommended to gradually increase indicator values. As I pointed out earlier, a 33 percent increase would mean that the M1 posted a 300 score.Power -5 +5 Start CPU Stress Test What do the indicators mean?īefore starting the CPU stress test, review the indicators below to understand what they are for. That’s a little more than half of what Heinemeier Hanson’s tweeted, but he compares the M2 to an M1 score that is not stated. When I tested Safari 15.6, I experienced an 18 percent increase of the M2 over the M1. The hardware involved the following chips and Macs: Processor I ran Speedometer 2.0 on Safari 15.6, Chrome 104, and the Safari Technology Preview (Release 150). You can learn more about how Speedometer benchmarks performance, and Speedometer is available for anyone to use for free. The higher the score, the better the performance.
